Additional Equipment Rental

Possible But Not Everytime

There are is a number of additional extras you may need for your car hire trip but getting them guaranteed and ready for your pick up is a different matter. Here at Car Hire .net we allow additional extras to be booked with prices easily displayed through brokers such as Argus Car Hire. That said, these extras are on request and can be denied so we are going to go through what you may need and give you alternative options.

Satellite Navigation

The ease of a computerised voice guiding you through urban jungles like Miami or Paris is a wish for everyone. Satellite Navigation systems are available to rent but restrictions may be in place for smaller locations or smaller cars. Some larger cars like the Toyota Avensis have it built in, but you may be missing the vital map card and it is about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. If you can't see it listed as an option either on the book page or in the terms and conditions other options are available. Pre planning is a good option, you know the places you want to go and a host of map and journey planning websites can help you pre plan the trips. Collate the information and take it with you - maybe even get a bit of the local lingo so you can ask if you get lost. If that sounds like too much trouble then there are third party websites and companies that will hire you a portable system for your tip. Google Satellite Navigation Hire and see what is available and at what cost. Finally if you just want to wing it and see where you end up, free maps of the locality are available at the majority of car rental desks, you renegade you!

Child Seats

I have touched on this a few times in past posts about the availability but more importantly the condition of child seats from all car rental companies. You can pre-book them and mostly, although they are on request, they are available and provided to you at pick up. For liability and insurance reasons you have to fit them yourself but it isn't too hard if you have on at home. The other option which I prefer is to bring mine from home. Airlines like Ryanair will allow you to put it in the storage for your flight for a fee which in most cases is lower than the rental cost from a car hire company.

Roof Racks

There is two myths in car hire. The first is that there is hire cars available with tow bars which I can confirm to you is simply not the case. The second big one is that roof racks are available for most hire cars to greatly increase the luggage capacity. In my ten years in car hire I have never seen a roof rack available for rent and fitted for you at the location. If you need additional space then look at estates or station wagons or simply hire a bigger car.

Ski Racks

On the other hand ski racks are available for rental especially at high altitude ski stations and gateway airports for ski resorts. Book early as they are popular and look at the total cost of the rental inclusive of the ski rack rental. As an option may be an estate which can hold you equipment without the need for attachments to the roof.
