Malaga Airport
The Airport
Also known as Pablo Ruiz Picasso Airport after the nearby city's most famous sons, Malaga Airport is the most important and busiest gateway to the Costa Del Sol. Spain's fourth busiest airport can be found 8 kilometers (5 miles) south west of Malaga and 5 kilometers (3 miles) north east of the resort Torremolinos.
The airport is available from the Peaje (Toll Road) A-7/ E-15 which costs around 5 Euro and in various tolled and untolled guises serves right from Algeciras in the south west to Girona and the French border. You can reach the airport without using the toll road by using the N340 which can take you into Malaga city center or south west to the resort Fuengirola.
Malaga Airport consists of three terminals (the latest opening in 2010) with a new runway being opened in late 2010 to double the capacity offered by the current single runway in operation. The new terminal and new runway are not popular due to the decreasing traffic of Malaga Airport with falls of 8% per year since a peak in 2007.
There are no free drop off facilities at Malaga airport with users being directed to the short term car parks that offer no grace period. A new short stay express car park is being opened on the second level of P2 (car park 2).

Other Car Hire Locations
Options for getting to other locations within Spain directly from Malaga Airport are limited but there are multiple choices locally for picking up your car.
By train the airport is serviced by the Malaga and Fuengirola line. This new suburban train service will have access as part of Terminal 3 but you will have to access it externally until building work is completed in late 2010. The new transportation hub at Malaga Airport will connect the terminal by bridge to car park, train and bus options. This train can take you into Malaga with multiple pick up options or down to Fuengirola which as a resort is also well served by car hire companies.
There a bus lines that operate mainly from the concourse outside Terminal 3 and serve some destinations along the Costa Del Sol. These include resorts with car hire locations like Marbella as well as Malaga (if travelling to Malaga city use the Express bus which limits stops on the way).
Parking
Three car parks service the airport named P1, P2 and General Aviation Car Park. P1 offers 2,500 spaces, P2 offers 1,200 spaces and General Aviation only 47. All three car parks offer the same parking charges. External operators offer long term car parking off airport serviced by shuttle buses although the airport itself will offer long term options in P3 in the future.
Car Hire company parking is at the moment located on on floor -1 of P2 and floors -1 and -2 of P1.
Short term parking charges are as follows - please note Malaga airport charges per minute.
Up to 30 Minutes = €0.021584 per minute

Up to a maximum charge of €18.30 per day for four days and €14.65 from the fifth day onwards.
Services
Most services and shops are found within the new Terminal 3 as the Terminal 2 is closed for refurbishment. If you enter Terminal 2 you will still find yourself automatically within the Terminal 3 shopping area after passport control.
There will be over 50 shops within the airport offering a wide range of purchases including a Museum Shop offering local culture gifts. Over 15 outlets located mainly in Terminal 3 offer food and drinks including a Whopper Bar (Burger King's new upmarket offering only found in a few other international locations). Pricing is not cheap compared to Spanish prices in general so you may want to bring some water and food if you are on a budget.
A chapel and medical centre are available in Terminal 3 and a police station is located in the General Aviation Terminal although there is a police presence normally throughout the airport.
Banking services as well as VIP lounges are available as well as the obligatory travel agencies and operator desks within the airport.
